MalcolmPenn, FutureHorizons’s founder and chief analyst thinks that in the future two years the semiconductor industry will increase prosperously and he holds optimistic opinions towards the market.

 

   Penn points out three predictable prospects about 2008 chip market— the lowest one will increase by 7% and the highest will increase by 10%. He thinks that at present owing to the lack of investment in the production capacity of semiconductor, the prices of chip will continue to rise and in 2009 the unit shipment will increase and therefore the market growth rate will reach “the higher double digit.”

 

   Although many large chip manufacturers will stop adopting leading manufacturing process, semiconductor industry will re-appear the former luster.

 

   However other analysts are still pessimistic and they worry that the overall economic slowdown is probably to suppress the demand in the second half year. Decline in sales and prices slump are the main factors of semiconductor market collapse. But pen believes that unit shipment will keep good trends and the average sales prices will rise, so these will bring the first strong growth since so many years for the whole chip market.

  “Sales in the second quarter increase by 2.3% than that in the first quarter. What the people predicted is unchangeable.” Penn said, “The statistics are all at the high end of the forecast.” Penn predicts that 10%-14% will increase in the third quarter than the second one. When the manufacturers purchase most components for holiday season at the end of the year, sales in the fourth quarter generally slows down and Penn predicts that this quarter it will increase by 3-6%.
